Over the last several months, we have faced unprecedented challenges brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic. We have been forced to fundamentally change our personal and professional lives, and are trying to work, live, and accept a “new normal”.
What will these workshops provide me?
Although compassion is at the core of support services, it can be difficult to find, maintain, and/or cultivate compassion for others (or ourselves!) during periods of distress, change, and uncertainty. The question then becomes not only how to find compassion for others, but how to use it for ourselves to stay well and help manage compassion fatigue, burnout, and our own mental health.

Staying on Track
Module 1 – Setting the Stage: Mental Health in the Context of COVID-19
COVID-19 has changed and disrupted all aspects of our life, putting increased stress and demands on us and our mental health. In this module we will explore and discuss why and how COVID-19 impacts our mental health and how we can use mindfulness as a strategy to combat stress.
Module 2- Addressing and Preventing Staff Burnout and Caregiver Stress
Feeling like you are doing more but getting less done? Feeling disconnected from work or that you are “going through the motions”? These are common symptoms of staff burnout that can lead to more issues in the future. In this module we will look at how to recognize early warning signs and strategies to reduce or prevent caregiver stress and burnout.
Module 3 – How Self-Compassion Can Help You Stay Well
How do you treat yourself when you are going through a tough time or make a mistake? Do you show kindness towards yourself, or, like many, engage in negative critical self-talk? Although we often give kindness and compassion to friends, family, and colleagues when they are struggling or make a mistake, we rarely give ourselves the same level of compassion or kindness. This module explores what self-compassion is comprised of, how to practice it, and why it is important to be able to manage stress and our overall well-being.
Module 4 – Exercises and Strategies for Self-Care and Self-Compassion
Being a caregiver is a rewarding position, however, it can take a toll on us mentally and emotionally. Constantly providing care and compassion for people in need can cause us to experience feelings of compassion fatigue, burnout, or experience mental health issues if we don’t take time to take care of ourselves. Practicing self-care and self-compassion are important parts to being able to manage our stress and mental health needs, so we can provide quality care for those we support (professionally and personally). This module discusses what self-care is, it’s importance, and provides examples of self-care and self-compassion that you can use at work or home to stay well.
Module 5 – Staying on Track
We often know or are aware of what we need do to help ourselves stay well and manage stress, however, it can be difficult to do it consistently over time. Being able to practice these strategies and being as consistent as possible are key to helping theses become effective and lasting stress management techniques. In our final module, we will review all the material and concepts that we have learned throughout the other modules and discuss ways to help you stay on track.
